Working with past rows

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Another very popular option in RowPro is rowing with past rows, either your own past rows or rows done by other people.

You can row with any past row that is stored in RowPro provided that:

1. The stroke data is stored with the row.  You can check this by looking at the SD column at the right of each rowing log entry.  When strokes are stored with a row, this column shows SD.
2.The duration of the saved row matches the duration of the session you plan to row with the past row.

Past rows may be stored in RowPro in one of three rowing logs:

My log - This is where your own rows are saved when you row with RowPro.
Competitor log - This is where imported Rowfiles are saved when the name of the person in the Rowfile is not yourself.
Race log - This is where results are saved from Venue Races where multiple ergs are connected to the RowPro PC.

Once rows are saved, they are listed and can be selected in the Session Setup / Lanes utility.

Please note  the Set Piece that is selected in Session Setup determines which past rows are listed in Session Setup / Lanes / Past Row and Session Setup / Lanes / Competitor - only past rows with the same duration as that Set Piece will be listed there.  RowPro enables you to row with two different types of past rows:

Your own past rows

These are rows you have done in RowPro and saved in your RowPro rowing log.  Use this when you  want to row with one or more of your own past rows.  See Using your own past rows for details.

Other people's past rows

These are rows done by other people that were saved as Rowfiles, downloaded to your RowPro PC, and imported into your Competitor log.  See Importing competitor rows for details.

The two main sources of Rowfiles of other people's past rows are:

The Concept2 Online Ranking - from here you can download any result files that have been uploaded and ranked by RowPro users.
The Digital Rowing Rowfile Library - from here you can download any result files that have been recorded at major race events like the BIRC and CRASH-B and converted into RowPro Rowfiles by Digital Rowing.

There are literally thousands of Rowfiles available for download at any time.   Creating Intermediate Pace Boats for details.

What are Rowfiles?

Rowfiles are small portable files where individual rowing sessions are stored using the XML data format.

Rowfiles contain all the stroke, split and total data for the session, plus the rower's name, class and colors used in RowPro.

RowPro can export Rowfiles from and import Rowfiles into any of its built-in rowing logs.

This can be a very stimulating way to keep improving by keeping ahead of your past self.
